The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a major impact on the entire supply chain, including liner shipping. Demand-driven disruptions and inland congestion during 2021 and 2022 led to severe delays and increased rate levels. Carriers mobilized to meet this demand by increasing capacity on existing trades and entering new trades. Liner carriers ordered more new vessels than ever before, and new companies entered the field.
