Join us at the
European Shipping Summit
The European Shipping Summit 2025 will take place on the 19-20 March 2025 at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels.
The two-day event will include engaging industry sessions, networking opportunities, and high-level dialogues featuring European and international policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
As one of the organisers of the ESS, WSC is hosting two sessions on 19 March, and our Chair, Mr Soren Toft, CEO of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, will hold a keynote speech at the High-Level Conference on 20 March.
Learn more about the sessions below!
At the 2023 European Shipping Summit, WSC and FONASBA/ECASBA brought together senior representatives from shipping lines, agents, ports, intelligence and law enforcement to take stock of the surge in seaborne drugs trafficking to Europe, its impacts and the joint efforts being taken to fight back against the drugs gangs.
Two years on, significant steps have been taken at industry, national and EU level to strengthen the security of maritime supply chains and to organise a more coordinated response across government, law enforcement and industry. But what comes next?
At the 2025 European Shipping Summit, the WSC / FONASBA seminar will reveal what has been achieved and consider how the criminals have responded. In a panel moderated by WSC’s EU Policy Director, Damian Viccars, we will focus on what steps should be taken next by the alliance of industry, law enforcement and government, to stop the exploitation of maritime supply chains by traffickers.
On the Panel
Ms Ine Van Wymeersch, Belgian National Drugs Commissioner
Mr Jo de Cock, Head of Unit, Organised Crime and Drugs, DG HOME, European Commission
Mr Franck Chaix, Vice President, Group Security & Intelligence CMA-CGM
Ms Hilde Bruggeman, Director, National Federation of Associations of Ship Agents and Brokers of Belgium
Mr Stephan Berger, Harbour Master, Port of Bremen

Today, Europe is a global hub for maritime fuels, but will it be able to maintain that postion? How will the EUs approach to the decarbonisation of maritime supply chains affect its competitiveness?
Together with a distinguished group of experts, we will discuss how maritime regulatory design, technological readiness, and the demand for decarbonized ocean transport can drive the energy transition.
In a panel led by WSC Environmental Policy Director Dr Jim Corbett, we will explore strategies to mobilize the supply of green maritime fuels and support Europe's supply chains in this transformative journey.
On the Panel
Barbara Sellier, Head of Unit, DG Move
Claudio Abbate, Group Vice President Maritime Policy and Government Affairs. MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company
